Welcome to the Mobile Pronunciation Instruction Site

As technology continues to change, we must continue to equip our faculty and their students with tools to facilitate the excellent language instruction at BYU. Mobile Internet use is quickly becoming the platform and culture of Internet use for the future, and we have the opportunity to be on the forefront of research in harnessing the innovation of these devices for our educational goals.

To this end, the Humanities Technology and Research Support Center proposes to research and develop interactive language applications for the iPhone platform and Google Android platform. The applications we envision will use the innovation of the devices themselves—elements of screen display and voice—culminating in a new synthesis of voice recognition, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, adaptive assessment, and data management. Faculty and technologists within the HTRSC and the College of Humanities would mentor students studying programming, natural language processing, web development, database design, and instructional technology as the team attempts to create an application that will teach, improve, and assess language production.

This site will continue to expand and grow as the project does; for now, you can look through some of the documents below to get an idea of what we hope to do.
